studio .ruig and our participation in Stichting UPV Textiel

Moving forward together in a circular future

studio .ruig is proud to contribute to the circular transformation of the textile industry by participating in Stichting UPV Textiel. This foundation plays a crucial role in realizing a circular textile chain in the Netherlands, aiming to make the textile industry more sustainable. As a creative studio in the fashion world, studio .ruig understands the urgency of this change and has therefore decided to actively participate in the collective UPV system.

Stichting UPV Textiel: the collective system for sustainability

Stichting UPV Textiel was established to accelerate the greening of the textile sector. The foundation’s goal is to promote the reuse and recycling of textile products and has the belief that the greatest impact is achieved through collaboration. As a producer organization, the foundation is taking the lead in developing a circular system, where textile producers collect, reuse, and recycle their products responsibly.

The UPV Textiel regulation holds producers and importers accountable for the separate collection and processing of textiles. It sets ambitious targets to significantly increase the reuse and recycling rates of textiles by 2025 and 2030. By 2025, the goal is to reach 50% reuse and recycling, with specific targets for reuse in the Netherlands and fiber-to-fiber recycling.

The future of textiles: sustainable and circular

studio .ruig's participation in Stichting UPV Textiel perfectly aligns with its vision for sustainability and the circular economy. As a producer in the textile industry, it is essential to take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of textile products—not only by making long-lasting products but also by considering their end-of-life stage. The foundation’s objectives resonate with the sustainable values of studio .ruig, which focuses on minimizing its ecological footprint and promoting reuse.

With the stringent regulations introduced by the government, such as the implementation of extended producer responsibility (UPV) from July 2023, producers are required to ensure that their products are collected and recycled responsibly once they are no longer in use. This means consumers will have easy access to drop-off points for old textiles, and recycled materials will find new purposes within the supply chain. studio .ruig is contributing to these initiatives by designing products that can be more easily reused and recycled.

Circular collaboration for a better future

studio .ruig believes that working in a circular manner is the only way forward for the textile industry. Its participation in Stichting UPV Textiel not only ensures compliance with laws and regulations but also positions studio .ruig as an active participant in creating a more sustainable and cleaner future for the fashion industry. This is done by collaborating with other producers and investing in innovative systems for collecting and reusing textiles.

Working with Stichting UPV Textiel offers studio .ruig not only the opportunity to contribute to the circular economy but also to influence the systemic changes necessary to make the textile industry more sustainable. This aligns with our ethos of creation and responsibility. studio .ruig is proud to be part of this movement and looks forward to working together with other pioneers to build a circular future for the textile sector.

A collective effort

As members of Stichting UPV Textiel, studio .ruig is committed to a collective approach to make the textile industry more sustainable. By working with other producers, the government, and the public, the foundation aims to create a system that is both economically and environmentally beneficial. The ultimate goal is to use only sustainable and recycled materials in textile products by 2050. studio .ruig’s participation in this collective effort is an important step towards creating a circular textile chain that reduces the industry’s environmental impact.

By opting for a circular approach and collaborating with Stichting UPV Textiel, studio .ruig is not only a pioneer in sustainable fashion but also a leader in the necessary transition to a circular economy.
